As you prepare for Thanksgiving break, please keep these updates in mind:
General Meeting Updates:
Our General Meeting #4 will be on Wednesday, November 13th the location is TBD. We will be having a student panel, and this meeting is usually a favorite among AED members. You will be hearing from current health professional students about their journey, and you will be given the opportunity to ask them questions. Also shirts will be distributed after the meeting. Please make sure you attend the meeting to pick up your shirts!
Our next fundraiser for the year is on October 30th (TOMORROW) from 4-7PM at Fat Straws Richardson (1251 W. Campbell Rd. Richardson, TX). Our fundraising coordinator, Pushti Mehta, will be there so you can either bring the receipt to her or email: firstname.lastname@example.org with a picture of your receipt. Be sure to write your full name and net ID on the receipt. Please note that you must make a $5 purchase for this to count as a fundraising credit. Additionally if you dress up in Halloween attire, you will also receive a social credit! Be sure to show the attached flier at checkout so AED can receive 15%.
The Texas Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program (TEMRAP) is an excellent opportunity for students to get involved in clinical research at one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the United States. Through the program, you will get to interact with a variety of patients and healthcare providers. The program requires a commitment of ~3 hours each week with planned continuation of being in the program for at least two semesters to gain the full research experience. You don’t want to miss out on our Personal Statement Workshop on Tuesday, November 19th from 7-8:30 pm with guest speaker Dr.Wendy Harpham. Dr. Harpham is an adjunct professor in the Honors College and award winning author who wants to help you write the best essay for your application. Dr.Harpham is also a lymphoma survivor, and founded Wendy’s Eagles to raise money for the Lymphoma Research Foundation. A minimum of $3 is required for entry, and ALL proceeds will be donated to Wendy’s Eagle and the LRF. The fee includes ice cream, social, AND fundraising credit for AED members.Please sign up through this link.
Suture Clinic Update:
AED will be hosting our Suture Clinic on November 20th from 6-8:30PM. Mark your calendars you do not want to miss this! This will be a great experience, and this will count as a social credit as well. The signup will be posted at General Meeting #4.
